Hello — I’m a mum of three little girls, all under four and a half, and the founder of Mind The Door.
Like many parents in England, I’ve learnt that parking with young children can be far more challenging than it really should be. Parking spaces are often tiny, and family spaces — when they’re available at all — are usually already taken, sometimes by other families and sometimes by very large cars that don’t always need them.
There are plenty of occasions where I simply can’t find a space that allows me to open both doors properly — which is rather important when you’re lifting children in and out, manoeuvring car seats, or attempting not to knock the car next to you. On more than one occasion, I’ve had to park across two spaces just to make sure everyone could get in and out safely.
The moment that really sealed it for me, though, was when I was pregnant and discovered I physically couldn’t get back into my car because another vehicle had parked too close. It was equal parts frustrating and slightly ridiculous — and it made me realise just how little room many of us are expected to manage with.
I contacted several local councils about public parking spaces, hoping that something might improve for families. While my emails were politely acknowledged and passed on to the “relevant department”, nothing ever came back.
So, instead of waiting, I decided to do something small but practical.
I created Mind The Door stickers as a polite way of asking for a little extra space and consideration. Sometimes they work, sometimes they’re ignored — but they’re there to gently explain the situation. I can’t take responsibility for how closely other cars choose to park, or whether they stay within their bay lines, but I can at least make the need for space clear.
My aim is simple: to create thoughtful, family-friendly car stickers that help with the everyday challenges of parking in tight spaces. Some are practical, some are just a bit funny, but all are designed with real family life in mind.
If you’ve ever tried to squeeze into a car while pregnant, or wrestle a car seat in a space clearly designed for a bicycle, you’ll understand exactly why Mind The Door exists.
